This course focuses on the importance and mechanics of name and gender marker changes, with the goal being to train attorneys to effectively represent people seeking such changes through the courts. The program covers the application process to change a person’s name and the application process to correct a birth record. It includes discussion of a recent federal case, Ray v. McCloud, that expanded access to gender marker changes for trans people. The presentation concludes with best practices and tips for effectively working with clients on these matters.
